KARMA HEALTH'S MODEL OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE

Health System Reform in Karma Health's model of Primary Health Care focuses three core domains - first, designing an integrated, high-quality and proactive healthcare, second, establishing accountable local leadership, and third, pursuing cost efficiency.

1. INTEGRATED, CONTINUOUS CARE

We are continuously innovating to ensure high quality, inclusive, integrated health care.

We are focused on innovations on 3 fronts:

i) Quality Clinical Care closer to home
ii) Proactive Community-based Care through professional community health workers

iii) Integrated Digital Health to bring clinics and community together.

2. ACCOUNTABLE LOCAL LEADERSHIP

We rely on the community to ensure the suitability and sustainability of our programs.

To ensure community-driven design we follow 2 approaches to local leadership:
i) Design and monitor progress of the interventions along with the communities
ii) Partner with local governments and have them finance the interventions.

3. COST-EFFICIENT INTERVENTIONS

We are cautious about ensuring that costs stay manageable for local communities.

We continuously strive to build a basic package of high-quality healthcare at costs affordable for local governments. For municipalities in Nepal, we have been able to provide high-quality care at $1 per person, per year.

INTEGRATED CARE DELIVERY

Quality Clinical Care

We ensure affordable high-quality clinical care by:

i) adding trained health workers, equipment, etc. to government-run health centers

ii) regular outreach services to the most remote regions

Proactive Community Care

Through our Community Health Workers, we ensure:

i) provision of individual care to those in most need

ii) inclusion, awareness, and expanded access to care

Digital Health Integration

By incorporating integrated digital health, we ensure:

i) continuous care from home to health centers and back

ii) longitudinal care across time and life cycle states
